Regatta Report
Day one was a light 0 to 4 knots that came from nearly all points on the compass rose. Despite several course changes and short distance races in trying conditions, we got 8 races completed by the end of the day. Jim Goddard was the clear front-runner with 11 points after two drops. In second was Herb Dreher with 21 points followed by Marc Smith, Gary Bugden, Mike Vanover and Paul Switzer all within 4 points of second.
The morning of day two was foggy without a breath of air, but soon filled in from the East and built steadily all day to 8-10 knots in the afternoon. This week end proved to be a great test through a variety of conditions for our racers. Paul Switzer chipped away at the lead scoring no worse than 4th place all day to nip the trophy from Jim Goddard by just one point.
Bob ‘Boots’ Boutilier won our “Hard Knocks” award for sustaining a number of undue bumps and rubs and a rig collapse. Honorable mention goes to Bruce Silzer who was plagued with electronic malfunctions all week end. Our “Sportsman” award went to John McKinney for politely weaving his boat around traffic, apologetically doing his circle just a couple times he didn’t and being generally helpful on the boardwalk. Honorable mention to Marc Smith who came to Boots’ aid to re-step his rig within a 5 minute delay.
Special thanks to our event sponsors, Victor Model Products, Hot Sails and Leading Edge Hobbies for providing great prizes for ALL of our competitors.
